We began our half day by discussing what our Question Wheel is, and looking at different questioning techniques for Show & Tell. But we could not begin yet as all of our friends were not in the classroom. So we all decided after some debate to work in our journals.
Here are the students working independently in their journals. Everyone displayed great focus, concentration, fine motor skills, creativity, language skills, phonics, punctuation, and spelling!
After our journals we were finally able to participate in our very first Show & Tell. We used lots of inferencing, questioning and answering skills, oral communication, problem solving, scientific vocabulary, adjectives, and implemented the question wheel and the Five W's. This was also a great opportunity to explore into Science and Geography. Two of our friends brought in some very interesting items that led to discussions and learning on oceans and coral reefs, the food chain, how paper is made, recycling, and how trees are important because they provide us with oxygen! What a tremendous first session with so much cross-curricular learning.
For Art today, we got to explore nature outside and use various items along with side walk chalk to make an art piece. While one group was busy doing this, our other group was having fun making abstract and colourful art with spray bottles and water paint! We had lots of fun using our fine motor skills, creativity, language and math skills, social skills, and problem solving skills.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone and great work thus far in the new school year!
Mr. Jacob :)
