Mr. Zachary was our teacher and went over the month, date, day, year, weather, time, and feelings.
Our morning exercise routine today was a fun game of Freeze Tag to wake up/ regulate our busy bodies.
A couple of our friends were a little dys-regulated and needed some co-regulation time with the support from our phenomenal TA's. Our TA's were absolutely incredible today assisting our class with regulation and academic progress! Great job by all! : )
Mr. Zachary was checking the classes' emotional status and how we were all feeling.
After morning circle we discussed our family backgrounds, family trees, grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, cousins, siblings, and pets. Everyone did very well using their fine motor skills, oral language skills, logical and abstract thinking skills, math skills, and social skills.
In Gym today we warmed up by playing "Elephant Soccer". Students had to get in a circle with their feet touching and legs spread open. Our "trunk" were our two arms hung low between our feet. The objective was to score a goal between someone else's feet by using your "trunk" and hitting the ball. This was a fun game that got our hearts' racing and everyone played so well with each other. Afterwards, we played Doctor Dodge Ball. Everyone demonstrated great auditory processing skills, hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
During our "Mindfulness" today we used a fun exercise involving spaghetti exercises to work on calming down our bodies, deep breathing, stretching, drama, and regulation. Afterwards, we went on a magical journey through a forest, river, climbed snowy mountains, listened to birds and the sound of leaves, while listening to a relaxing narrative and being exposed to sensory stimuli. We used Ocean Mist spray, paper bags full of leaves, smooth and cool stones, soft feathers, and a spray bottle. Two of our friends helped us create the sound of leaves falling and crunching under our feet.
After lunch we continued our work on our families, classification, and what does grandma, grandpa, mother, father, aunt, uncle, cousins, and siblings entail and actually mean. Everyone did very well using their fine motor skills, oral language skills, logical and abstract thinking skills, math skills, and social skills.
In the sensory gym today we did something a bit different. We used all of the sensory equipment to aid us in a drama/role play/creative play session.
Our Family Tree example.
Our last activity of the day was a fun Phonics/ TGTS fine and gross motor game. We began by going over the digraphs OR, ER, and AR. Students brainstormed words that begin with, contain, and end with these sounds. Next, we looked at different objects and toys that did and did contain our sounds. Lastly, we got into two groups and had 20 foot wheel barrel races to the objects and toys. Students had to work together in teams to wheel barrel race down the path, look at the objects, grab the one's that had the OR and ER sound in them (e.g. fork, unicorn, zipper, etc.), and then they had to wheel barrel race back to the next team mate in line.
Have a great evening and see you all tomorrow! Also, because FRIDAY IS A PD DAY AND STUDENTS WILL NOT BE AT SCHOOL WE WILL BE HAVING SHOW & TELL TOMORROW.
Mr. Jacob : )
