Our gang decided to start off the day by going over our morning circle routine. Mr. Avery was our teacher today, and he went over the month, date, day, year, weather, time, and feelings.
For our morning exercise today we participated in a fun team building activity called "Marble Run". Students had to work together in unison to transport a pom pom ball from one end of the classroom to the other without using their hands. Students had half of a paper towel roll to use, and every time they passed the pom pom from one roll to the next they could take one step together as a team. Everyone succeeded and did very well working as a team, using oral and two way communication, fine and gross motor skills, counting, and sportsmanship. One friend did not want to play, and so he did a fantastic job being our referee!
During math today we played a fun addition/subtraction/multiplication/division game called "Ball Toss". Students received three balls each with random numbers written on them. They then had to stand a measured distance away and try to throw the balls into a square container. All the balls that landed in the container were added and individual scores were recorded. The four boys did a fantastic job with their mathematic skills, fine and gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, sportsmanship, turn taking, and oral communication skills.
Our other three friends wanted to write and draw in their journals. They worked very hard on their penmanship, spelling, grammar, phonics, and sentence structure abilities.
In Gym today everyone decided to play "Octopus Tag". This was a fun game that got our hearts' racing and everyone played so well with each other. Afterwards, we played our "Scooter Capture the Flag" game. Everyone demonstrated great auditory processing skills, hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
During our "Mindfulness" today we used a fun exercise involving spaghetti exercises to work on calming down our bodies, deep breathing, stretching, drama, and regulation. Afterwards, we went on a magical journey through a forest, river, climbed snowy mountains, listened to birds and the sound of leaves, while listening to a relaxing narrative and being exposed to sensory stimuli. We used Ocean Mist spray, paper bags full of leaves, smooth and cool stones, soft feathers, and a spray bottle. Two of our friends went on their own magical calming journey and used some mini surf boards to create their own calming hut! : )
After lunch we began the afternoon with some Fine Motor Skills and Team Structure Building. Everyone displayed great dexterity, math skills, social skills, turn taking, problem solving, abstract thinking, communication, hand-eye and visual perceptual skills.
In the sensory gym we worked on our hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, body mapping and awareness, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, math, time, phonics and rhyming skills, and balance and coordination.
Three points!

Little co-regulation/ relaxation time from Mr. Sander
At the end of the day our friends decided to participate in Play Master for the next activity. This is such a great exercise for time management skills, number sense and numeracy, multiplication, time, problem solving, turn taking, oral communication skills, social skills, play skills, and creativity. Everyone had to decide who got to go first, how much time each student got in a 25 minute duration to lead their friends in play, and then choose which activities/ games they wanted to carry out.
Lastly, we went over our Zones of Regulation and used different coloured blocks to symbolize how our day was, and how different times of the day went. We also got to share our own ideas and thoughts on how our day went, and took turns saying one nice thing about our friends from today's work.
See you all tomorrow and I hope you enjoyed the burgers and hot dogs!
Mr. Jacob : )
