We began our Thursday by deciphering and correcting Mr. Jacob's morning message. Everyone used great problem solving skills, language arts skills, team work and turn taking to complete the task. During our morning circle we also demonstrated some addition, subtraction, and multiplication skills when being questioned about dates on our calendar. Mr. Carter was our teacher today and went over the month, date, day, year, weather, time, and feelings.
We also went over some Olympic Training today with a fine motor, hands-eye math game involving triple digit addition! This was followed by completing subtraction/take away JUMP math work sheets.

Today in gym class we played Coloured Octopus and Dodgeball. Everyone demonstrated great auditory processing skills, hand-eye coordination, teamwork, social skills, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
During our "Mindfulness" today we worked on calming exercises, deep breathing, stretching, drama, and regulation. Afterwards, we went on a magical journey through a forest, river, climbed snowy mountains, listened to birds and the sound of leaves and waves, while listening to a relaxing narrative and being exposed to sensory stimuli.
Mr. Carter was helping Mr. Scott during our Mindfulness session.
After lunch we had a Fine Motor, Abstract and Symbolic Art session on mascots. we discussed what a mascot is, what they mean, symbolism, and looked at past Olympic mascots. Everyone was very creative and demonstrated great fine motor skills, creative art skills, and oral communication when describing their mascot to their peers.
After our Fine Motor, Abstract and Symbolic Art session, we decided to play Head Bands. This is a fun TGTS game where everyone has to use inferencing, questioning, abstract thinking, problem solving, turn taking, oral communication, categorization, classification, time and social skills.
At the very end of the day we yet again went over the parts of a story: characters, setting, problem(s), events, and solution(s). We then got into groups and made our own characters using costumes and props, and then had to come up with a setting, events, a problem and a solution. This will be a work in progress but we displayed some great creative skills, turn taking, team work, social skills, role playing, drama skills, and oral communication skills.
Do not forget, tomorrow is SHOW AND TELL and also BLUE AND WHITE dress down day for the Blue Jay's big win!
HOMEWORK TIPS:
1) Discuss/read/create a story and use the 5 Finger Retelling Method:
2) Work on two and three-digit addition and subtraction questions, whether you write down some questions for your child, or use math to cook, clean, set the table, do chores, play games, create a game, etc.
3) Discuss what nouns, adjectives, and verbs are by making a visual sentence using pictures from magazines, drawings, etc. and words. Example: The BOAT (cut out a picture of a boat for the noun) SAILs (use a picture of a sail for the verb) out into the DEEP, BLUE water (use a picture of something deep and blue for the adjectives). Have your child also write out the sentence (s).
4) Spend 15 minutes reading a book of your child's choice, a cartoon, instructions, recipe, comic strip, etc. Make reading fun, engaging, an adventure, and not a boring chore.
