Mr. Zachary heard that I was planning to abolish Pokemon on Wednesdays. So, I asked him to write a persuasive letter outlining all the benefits for Pokemon. Zachary came up with some great pros and rules for Pokemon, and he did indeed persuade Mr. Jacob to keep Pokemon on Wednesdays! Great work Zachary!
As usual, we played some Olympic Ring Toss to begin the day. We used our fine and gross motor skills, visual spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, accuracy, turn taking, sportsmanship, and math skills.
Before our morning circle some of our friends participated in a Thinking Goes to School barrier activity on our geo boards. Students had to create a complex design on their boards, and then switch with a friend and re-create their friends' design on a blank board. Students had to peer review and monitor their friends' progress, and everyone used their visual spatial panning, fine motor skills, bilateral movements, hand-eye coordination, problem solving skills, and math skills. Barrier games are a great language tool—they
provide opportunities to develop receptive (understanding)
and expressive (speaking) communication skills, as well as visual spatial and fine motor skills.
Here is Ms. Elizabeth going over her handwriting and sentcnce writing skills.
Sander is taking a sensory break.
Checking our friends' work.
Zachary showing off his SJA math work!
Mr. Eric was our teacher today and went over the month, date, day, year, weather, time, and feelings.
In gym class today we played a fun game called Key Master. Friends had to hide, spot, run, and tag during this exciting game. It was so much fun and everyone demonstrated great auditory processing skills, hand-eye coordination, teamwork, social skills, sportsmanship, motor planning, body mapping, sequencing, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
During our "Mindfulness" session today we worked on calming exercises, deep breathing, stretching, auditory processing, and regulation while watching Cosmic Kids Yoga "Star Wars"!
After lunch today some of our friends had their OT and SLP sessions while the rest of us participated in a fun team building game led by Ms. Monika.
After our fun activity we had our second Boys Club with friends from SJA. We played ring toss and Lego building with our friends and worked on social skills, turn taking, two way oral communication, opening and closing circles of communication, and social problem solving.
Our last activity of the day was a party for our Closing Ceremonies. We had music, Olympic torches and medals, as well as a treat to celebrate all of our hard work with the Olympics thus far. Next, we will be looking at recipes from different countries and some of our favourite dishes to make. We are all excited to begin cooking (and eating of course lol).
Our team!
We were all smiles for our celebration : )
The Usain Bolt! Haha
We even had a special celebrity appearance!
HOMEWORK TIPS:
1) Work on two and three-digit addition and subtraction questions, whether you write down some questions for your child, or use math to cook, clean, set the table, do chores, play games, create a game, etc.
2) Discuss what nouns, adjectives, and verbs are by making a visual sentence using pictures from magazines, drawings, etc. and words. Example: The BOAT (cut out a picture of a boat for the noun) SAILs (use a picture of a sail for the verb) out into the DEEP, BLUE water (use a picture of something deep and blue for the adjectives). Have your child also write out the sentence (s).
3) Spend 15 minutes reading a book of your child's choice, a cartoon, instructions, recipe, comic strip, etc. Make reading fun, engaging, an adventure, and not a boring chore.
4) Have your child come up with their own creative action game involving rules, a points system, and number of players. Your child can name the game and write down the rules, and then orally explain the game to family members.
Mr. Jacob : )
