I cannot believe we were gone for only 19 days! The boys and I thought it felt like months haha.
We had such a fantastic start to the new term with our friend Zachary who will now be with us until the end of the year. The boys made Zachary feel right at home, and all day long they helped Zachary transition into our class routine and schedule.
Right from the start all four were very excited and hyper, which resulted in us brainstorming active ideas. The boys came up with: Simon Says, dancing, and bean bag crashes.
Bean Bag Crashes (help us regulate our bodies and obtain our sensory needs)
Simon Says (great turn taking, auditory processing, fine and gross motor skills, bilateral movements, proprioception movements, balance and coordination.
Dancing (great for sensory needs, healthy bodies, fine and gross motor skills, bilateral movements, proprioception movements, balance and coordination).
After our work out routines we went into the morning circle routine. We had lots of work to do after nineteen days of not being at school! The morning circle routine is great for language, oral communication, turn taking, problem solving skills, math skills, time & time management, feelings & emotions, sequencing and writing skills.
Partner Play (utilizes life skills and social skills, creativity, oral communication, two way communication, turn taking, sharing, working with others, teamwork, math skills- numeracy, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and money).
The boys were so eager to share their holiday adventures and brag about the gifts Santa brought them for Christmas. Therefore, we had a fun journal writing during Language Arts and got to share all of the cool things we did and received over the break.
In P.E. class today, the boys played "Out of the Backyard", which is a fun non-contact dodgeball type game. The boys had loads of fun with their friends in Ms. Jessica and Ms. Andrea;s classes.
In Social Studies the boys participated in a great Floortime Play session with their friends. This was followed by getting to know our two new friends Sander and Zachary during a art session.
In the sensory gym we worked on our hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, math and rhyming skills, and balance and coordination.
During Minute to Win It we worked on our concentration and focus, hand-eye coordination, proprioception skills, bilateral movements, fine and gross motor skills, math skills, time management, sportsmanship skills, and how to work through our emotions.
Lastly, we participated in a fun hands-on, fine motor problem solving Team Building activity. The boys had to build a shape, person, animal, and/or thing and then solve a tricky problem involving them to remake the picture by moving only one or two toothpicks.
What a busy but great way to start January! Have a restful evening and see you tomorrow!
Mr. Jacob : )
