The boys came in today full of energy and smiles! They were excited to share their weekend endeavours, and so, we decided to write in our journals.
After our journal writing the boys needed to move! We went outside and completed a fun obstacle course on the playground. They demonstrated sportsmanship, motor planning, gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
Mr. Avery was our teacher today and led the class through time (past, present, and future), calendar work (years, months, days, and weeks), emotions and feelings, morning greetings, and what we did this weekend.
In Math today the boys wanted to complete some Jump Math worksheets. They did very well going over open and closed lines, straight and curved lines, and sides and vertices.
After our Math session we joined Ms. Andrea's class for a fun Star Wars Spelling and reading lesson with our friends. The boys did fantastic with their language skills and demonstrated great social skills and turn taking.
In Gym today we played a fun gym game called "The Food Chain" where we had some students wear yellow shirts and elastic bands for herbivores, green shirts and elastic bands for omnivores, and red shirts and elastic bands for carnivores. First, all the herbivores and omnivores had to move around their habitat in search of food, i.e. water, plants, and insects. They had one minute to try and find their food before the carnivores were released! Carnivores had to tag herbivores and omnivores before they ran to the safety zones (meaning they were too quick and escaped the carnivores). Those that got tagged by a carnivore had to give them one of their elastic bands (lives), and if a herbivore and omnivore that escaped did not have a water, plant, and/or insect card that they found, they too would have to give up an elastic (life). This was such a fun game and everyone did very well! The boys demonstrated great auditory processing skills, hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
For Social Skills today Ms. Andrea's class joined us for a fun Team Building challenge: The Boat Challenge. Our friends got into groups with their peers and had to construct a bridge out of various materials that could not only float, but hold the biggest amount of dominoes without sinking. This was a great activity for team work, oral communication skills, sportsmanship, problem solving, math skills, fine motor skills, and social problem solving.
In the sensory gym we worked on our hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, math, time, phonics and rhyming skills, and balance and coordination.
At the very end of the day we joined Ms. Andrea's class to go over our Peter Pan "Lost Boys Call and Response" chant. They did so well going over the words and actions with their peers.
Have a great evening and see you tomorrow gentlemen! : )
Mr. Jacob
