After our morning play session we went outside and completed a fun obstacle course on the playground. The boys demonstrated sportsmanship, motor planning, gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
Here we are problem solving who is the teacher today.
Mr. Evan was our teacher today and led the class through time (past, present, and future), calendar work (years, months, days, and weeks), emotions and feelings, morning greetings, and what we did this weekend.
In Language Arts today we went over adjectives, nouns, and questioning techniques. The boys had to use descriptive language, oral communication skills, questioning techniques, writing skills, spelling/ grammar, phonemic and phonological awareness, math skills, and emotions and feelings. First, I showed them a picture that I couldn't see and they had to describe it to me. Next, they each had to choose one photo of their choice and then come up with some great descriptive words to write down underneath the image. They all did extremely well! : )
Today in Gym we played a game that we learned with St. Jude's. Our class taught our friends in Ms. Jessica's and Ms. Andrea's class how to play "Ship Wreck". This was a fun game where there were four ships, four life boats, and canon balls. Each team had someone who was responsible to go on the life boat (scooter) and grab a canon ball (squishy ball) and then go back to the ship (yoga mat) and give the canon ball to their fellow ship mates. Those on board the ship had to take the canon ball and try and hit any of the four cups (anchors) that each ship had. The objective was to keep all of your anchors in place while trying to hit the other teams' anchors. The boys demonstrated great auditory processing skills, hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
In the afternoon we began with a fun team building challenge called, "Pony Toss". The boys had to choose two teams of two, and then use a cup, four popsicle sticks, four elastics, two pieces of string, a spoon, and a roll of tape to make a catapult-type object. We then tested our creations to see how far they could toss a toy pony across the room. Everyone did very well in their teams with their oral communication skills, problem solving skills, fine motor skills, measurement, number sense & numeracy, as well as teamwork and sportsmanship.
In the sensory gym we worked on our hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, math, time, phonics and rhyming skills, and balance and coordination.
At the end of the day we went over our Zones of Regulation and used different coloured blocks to symbolize how our day was, and how different times of the day went. We also got to share our own ideas and thoughts on how our day went, and took turns saying one nice thing about our friends from today's work. This was followed by some Partner Play!
