The day began with some partner play using Evan's MagnaTiles. The boys demonstrated great language, math, science, social, and play skills while implementing turn taking, oral communication, and sportsmanship.
After our play session we went outside and completed a fun obstacle course on the playground. They demonstrated sportsmanship, motor planning, gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
The rest of the morning we dedicated to our garden! The boys discussed what we needed to do in order to prepare for the planting. We also talked a lot about science, for example, the plant cycle and how they grow, what food(s) they need, what the best habitat is for plants, etc. We also demonstrated our math skills for how many plants we had, measurement for water and top soil, sequencing for the stages of a plants growth cycle, and sorting by colours and size. Moreover, the boys had to use their fine and gross motor skills, balance and coordination, proprioceptive skills and heavy thinking, as well as turn taking, problem solving, and team work! What an incredible morning and they all did so well together! : )
Preparing the soil and weeding.
Getting ready for the planting process.
Mixing the top soil with earth from the flower bed.
Planting our flowers.
The afternoon started off with a bang. Well, more like a shrill alarm. We had a fire drill immediately after recess, and everyone listened very well to instructions. When we got back inside the boys did a great job with some word decoding exercises. They had to use their blending and segmenting skills to make words using a "word tube". For example, if they had the digraph /ch/ they had to recognize and say the entire word when the /ch/ sound paired with the blend /e/-/ck/ sound to make the word, 'ch-e-ck'.
This was followed by Track & Field practice for tomorrow's big event. The boys demonstrated great auditory processing skills, hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
We had an early snack and recess today as we had to continue working on our Peter Pan play. The boys also began making stage props for the spring concert. We utilized our social skills, creative drama skills, turn taking, team work, oral communication, application, sequencing, fine and gross motor, motor planning, and sportsmanship skills.
At the very end of our busy day we had some free time with our friends to unwind from the busy day!
Have a great evening gentlemen and see you all tomorrow. DO NOT FORGET THAT TOMORROW IS OUR TRACK AND FIELD EVENT. STUDENTS SHOULD COME IN WEARING SPORTY CLOTHES AND RUNNING SHOES. THANK YOU!
Mr. Jacob : )
