Happy Leap Year Day 2016 Parents and Carers!

As always, we began with some sensory dancing. Guided dancing and sensory circuits are both great activities to help regulate and demonstrate great body and muscle awareness, proprioceptive, vestibular and bilateral movements, fine and gross motor skills, motor planning, and auditory processing. There was a great Leap Year song that we absolutely loved to dance to today!

Here are the boys choosing you gets to go first, second, third, and fourth.

Mr. Evan was our teacher today and led the class through time (past, present, and future), calendar work (years, months, days, and weeks), emotions and feelings, morning greetings, and what we did on the weekend.

Checking to see what time it is.

After mornign circle we played a quick game of Lily Pad in ode to Leap Year Day.

Next, we played a fun auditory processing, oral communication, teamwork, and directional language game called, "Pin the Crown on the Frog".

In language arts today we had to write a letter to our 'future selves'. The boys wrote the date, their age, what they like, drew some pictures, and took some pictures showing Leap Year 2016. We sealed everything in an envelope, and now, we are going to wait until February 29, 2020 to open them up. This is a fun activity that involves writing, phonics, spelling, grammar, and math skills.

Monday, February 29, 2016!

In gym today everyone took a vote on what we should play. It was unanimous that we play "Party Pooper". It is a great game similar to dodge ball, and it utilizes auditory processing skills, fine and gross motor skills, bilateral, vestibular, and proprioceptive movements, motor planning, sportsmanship, and teamwork!

In Minute to Win It today the boys had to knead, pull, stretch, and roll play-doh into a pizza, and then use a toothpick to cut in into certain fractions. For example, they had to make a pizza with four slices (1/8 ths) and eight slices (1/12 ths). It was a lot of fun and utilized their fine motor skills, math skills (fractions and numeracy), and sportsmanship.

During social skills everyone did a great job working together to communicate, problem solve, and brainstorm ideas about healthy eating. We looked at the food pyramid and had to sort and organize various foods based on food groups that we learned today: fats, oils, and sugars; meat, poultry, seafood, beans, legumes; milk and dairy; fruits and vegetables; and grains, noodles, and rice. We then got to use celery, cream cheese, hummus, and alphabet cheese crackers and gold fishes to make a fun and delicious snack!

In the sensory gym we worked on our hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, math, time, and rhyming skills, and balance and coordination.

At the very end of the day we made our own personal frog puppets for Leap Year Day! A fun and creative activity using their fine motor skills.

Have a lovely evening gentlemen!

Happy Friday Parents and Carers!

The boys were very excited for our Show and Tell session, and we saw some new things today. Everyone had to describe their object, share why they brought it in, where they got it from, how long they have had it, and why it is so special.

Mr. Zachary was our teacher today and led the class through time (past, present, and future), calendar work (years, months, days, and weeks), emotions and feelings, and morning greetings.

In art today we got together with our friends and drew a picture/ made a collage representing things that we like. Our pictures will be used for Mr. Nahji's surprise gift he has built for our school! We are very excited to see what it is and he has built it himself.

After recess we had an opportunity to engage in some Partner Play. Play is so good for social skills, math, language, communication, turn taking, teamwork, sportsmanship, emotions, and feelings.

In science we began looking at a new sense: our sense of smell. After completing a unit on sound and touch, Mr. Jacob introduced us to our sense of smell using various smells. Our friends had to smell coffee, hot chocolate powder, shaving foam, and a banana without looking. Everyone got to guess what they smelt after each item. It was a lot of fun! Afterwards we got into partners and made some homemade chocolate and vanilla smelling play-doh. What a fun and cool science lesson, especially when we got to eat chocolate cupcakes at the end!

Have a great weekend gentlemen and see you on Monday!

Happy Thursday Parents and Carers!

Mr. Eric was our teacher today and led the class through time (past, present, and future), calendar work (years, months, days, and weeks), emotions and feelings, morning greetings.

We were all smiles to start the day!

Peace!

As always, we had to begin our day with some sensory dancing. Guided dancing and sensory circuits are both great activities to help regulate and demonstrate great body and muscle awareness, proprioceptive, vestibular and bilateral movements, fine and gross motor skills, motor planning, and auditory processing.

In math today we began by playing our Pizza Fractions board game. Afterwards we completed different levelled Jump Math worksheets fractions and everyone did very well!

In language arts we played a fun auditory processing game called "Pizza, Pizza"! Our friends had to listen to different pizza orders and make them from memory after verbal instructions from a pizza customer. This is a great game for auditory processing, memory, and comprehension.

Before we got to play Ms. Andrea's dodgeball game, we took part in a fun tug-of-war with some older students in Oakwood. Afterwards, we had some fun playing "Party Pooper"! It was a great game similar to dodge ball, and it utilized auditory processing skills, fine and gross motor skills, bilateral, vestibular, and proprioceptive movements, motor planning, sportsmanship, and teamwork!

In Minute to Win It today the boys had to knead, pull, stretch, and roll play-doh into a pizza, and then use a toothpick to cut in into certain fractions. For example, they had to make a pizza with four slices (1/4 ths) and eight slices (1/8 ths). It was a lot of fun and utilized their fine motor skills, math skills (fractions and numeracy), and sportsmanship.

During social skills the boys worked with their friends in Ms. Andreas class. They had to first, pick teams that had two friends from each class, and then they had to agree on an activity. Our group decided to make a life size Angry Birds game using dinosaurs! There was lots of great discussion and social problem solving.

In the sensory gym we worked on our hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, math, time, and rhyming skills, and balance and coordination.

Have a great evening gentlemen! See you all tomorrow!
