The boys got in early today and did not want to attend assembly, so we decided to have a little play session while waiting for Eric to join us. It was a nice change and everyone got along great!
As always, we had to begin our day with some sensory dancing. Guided dancing and sensory circuits are both great activities to help regulate and demonstrate great body and muscle awareness, proprioceptive, vestibular and bilateral movements, fine and gross motor skills, motor planning, and auditory processing.
Mr. Avery was our teacher today and led the class through time (past, present, and future), calendar work (years, months, days, and weeks), emotions and feelings, morning greetings.
In math today, the boys got to choose a math activity out of four possible choices: 1) Pizza Fractions Art; 2) Jump Math Fractions; 3) Pizza Bingo Math; and 4) Pizza Time Math.
Evan chose Pizza Bingo Math to work on his addition and subtraction, as well as his fine motor skills.
Zachary, Eric, and Avery chose Pizza Fractions Art, which uses fine motor skills, numeracy, and fractions.
After math we attended an interactive workshop on Bullying. It was a good workshop to discuss, look at, and watch videos on Anti-Bullying.
Next, the boys had some time to play with their friends and engage in some partner play.
Ms. Andrea came up with a really fun and new gym activity today called, "Party Pooper"! It was a great game similar to dodge ball, and it utilized auditory processing skills, fine and gross motor skills, bilateral, vestibular, and proprioceptive movements, motor planning, sportsmanship, and teamwork!
After lunch all of our friends were having a difficult time regulating and finding the motivation to engage in Minute to Win It, social skills, and even the sensory gym! We had some great discussion, and social problem solving for the first 25 minutes after lunch recess before we were able to pose with a smile!
Cheeeese!!!!!
In social skills today we played a fun team building game called "Marble Run". Our friends had to get into groups of three and two, and then transport a marble from one end of the classroom to the other without touching the marble. Everyone had to "touch" the marble a specific amount of times by using half a paper towel roll. It was fun, challenging, and everyone demonstrated great communication, problem solving, fine and gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, motor planning, math skills, and bilateral movements.
During the sensory gym only two friends wanted to participate while our other two friends decided to complete some sensory dancing. It was a nice time to bond with other students from Ms. Andrea's class, while still completing exercises that help regulate them, as well as meet their sensory needs.
Finally, at the end of the day everyone had to choose a literacy activity. They could either: a) read; b) write in their journals; c) complete a pizza literacy activity; or d) make their own pizza menu.
Eric decided to write in his journal and make the ultimate pizza pie!
Evan decided to create his own detailed pizza menu!
Have a great evening friends and drive safe tonight! (Well your parents. Make sure your parents drive home safe tonight, not you! Haha)
Mr. Jacob : )
