We had a full class today with all of the boys excited to be reunited. It was a very busy and energetic day, but we had lots of fun!
As always, we began with some sensory dancing. Guided dancing and sensory circuits are both great activities to help regulate and demonstrate great body and muscle awareness, proprioceptive, vestibular and bilateral movements, fine and gross motor skills, motor planning, and auditory processing.
Mr. Zachary was our teacher today and led the class through time (past, present, and future), calendar work (years, months, days, and weeks), emotions and feelings, morning greetings, and what we did on the weekend.
In language arts today we got together to brainstorm some ideas for our pizza party. Today, the boys found out where the closest pizza restaurant is, estimated how long it would take to cook and deliver the pizza, and then problem solved how many students there are, and that we would need to ask everyone what kind of pizza they would want, as well as how many slices they would want.
Ms. Andrea came up with a really fun and new gym activity today called, "Party Pooper"! It was a great game similar to dodge ball, and it utilized auditory processing skills, fine and gross motor skills, bilateral, vestibular, and proprioceptive movements, motor planning, sportsmanship, and teamwork!
During social skills everyone did a great job working together to communicate, problem solve, and brainstorm ideas about healthy eating. We looked at the food pyramid and had to sort and organize various foods based on food groups that we learned today: fats, oils, and sugars; meat, poultry, seafood, beans, legumes; milk and dairy; fruits and vegetables; and grains, noodles, and rice.
In the sensory gym we worked on our hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, math, time, and rhyming skills, and balance and coordination.
Lastly, our class got into groups of two and went around the school conducting a pizza survey. We had to make a list of all the classes and who are in the classes. Next, we had to ask our friends what type of pizza they like, and how many slices they could eat (within reason of course haha). Everyone did a fantastic job, and afterwards we discussed how many slices could be in a pizza, what a 'good' slice of pizza looks like (about 1/8th), and how many pizzas we would need if each pizza had eight slices.
Have a great evening and I will see you all tomorrow!
Mr. Jacob : )
