The boys, Ms. Amber, and I had such a great day to start off the new month! The morning was full of great discussion, problem solving, listening to others, and two way communication. We also had a new Minute to Win It activity today, as well as a fun rhyming and drumming session!
The morning began with some great social problem solving from all of the boys. We had some confusion and difference of opinion regarding who should be first for our sensory break dancing. It took us around 35 minutes to solve our problem, and there was a lot of great communication, expression, problem solving, listening and understanding.
Alas, the problem solving is complete! Here we are enjoying our dance moves after problem solving and morning circle. Guided dancing is great activity to help regulate and demonstrate great body and muscle awareness, proprioceptive and bilateral movements, gross motor skills, motor planning, and auditory processing.
In language arts today we looked at our six spelling words associated with pizza. We had to match the words, find the words, spell the words, put the words together, make the words, and use the words in a sentence! Great for phonics, spelling, phonemic and phonological awareness, and sentence structure.
Here are the boys having a blast in gym during a great Dodgeball session with their peers. Everyone got along so well, and there were no arguments or interruptions the entire game! WOW! We also got to work on hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
We had a brand new Minute to Win It today called "Going Fishing". Our friends had to manoeuvre a Kleenex fish around "sea weed" and "sea rocks" in order to get their fish back into its underwater cave using only a paper plate! We worked on our concentration and focus, hand-eye coordination, proprioception skills, bilateral movements, fine and gross motor skills, math skills, time management, sportsmanship skills, and how to work through our emotions. Mr. Zachary had a 1:1 session with Ms. Hope at this time.
In social skills this afternoon we finished our cool homemade Play-Doh CD case art with our friends. Mr. Zachary still had his 1:1 session with Ms. Hope at this time, but joined in later. We had to share our play-doh colours that we made and get creativity with this fine motor activity. Next, we painted some bricks for our new surprise that Mr. Nahji made for us.
In the sensory gym we worked on our hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, math, time, and rhyming skills, and balance and coordination.
Our last activity today was a fun 'Call & Response' rhyming and drumming session. The boys had to follow my lead with the rhymes and lyrics to silly name songs while copying my beat on our "drums". It was so much fun and a great activity for keeping a beat, auditory processing, language, rhyming, phonemic and phonological awareness, and to have some fun!
At the end we decided that our "drums" made really fun hats! Haha
Have a great Monday evening gentlemen.
Mr. Jacob : )
