Spring has finally arrived! The boys came in all smiles and very energetic to start off our sunny week. We decided to burn off some of their energy by completing our sensory circuit outdoors. The boys did some sprints, jumps, and ball tag. These activities help regulate their bodies and get them to demonstrate great body and muscle awareness, proprioceptive, vestibular and bilateral movements, fine and gross motor skills, motor planning, and auditory processing.
Mr. Eric was our teacher today and led the class through time (past, present, and future), calendar work (years, months, days, and weeks), emotions and feelings, and morning greetings.
In math class today we went over our 3D Shapes Bean Bag toss that utilized our geometry and auditory processing skills. Afterwards, we went on a little scavenger hunt throughout our class and school in search of various shapes.
In language arts today Zachary and Avery went over our new spelling words by participating in a fine motor word search using tongs and fun coloured rice and beans. They also completed a work sheet asking them to trace, write, build, find, and use the new spelling words in a sentence. Both Evan and Eric had 1:1 sessions working on their individual SLP goals.
In gym class today we played several fun games using our school parachute. The boys demonstrated great auditory processing skills, hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, math, and balance and coordination.
In social skills today we joined Ms. Jessica and Ms. Andrea's classes for an outdoor scavenger hunt/ eye spy adventure. We worked together in teams and had so much fun looking for shapes, colours, textures, sizes, etc. Everyone also went over road safety and explored our local nature, i.e. geese, tress, flowers, plants, insects.
At the very end of the day the boys participated in some Partner Play by using rules and concepts from the 'Play Master' game from social skills. Everyone did very well interacting, turn taking, using great communication skills, descriptive language, sportsmanship, and creativity!
Have a great evening and see you all tomorrow!
Mr. Jacob : )
