The boys did very well in St. Jude's gym class today. They played a fun game called "Lifeboat", where they had to work in teams and engage in oral communication and problem solving skills together. The objective was to knock over the other teams bowling pins that kept their lifeboats afloat. The boys worked with other students and had to demonstrate teamwork, cooperation, oral communication skills, directional language, sportsmanship, gross motor skills, balance and coordination, motor planning, and bilateral movements. They all did very well!
In math today we played a fun fine motor, hand-eye, auditory processing game involving 3D shapes. The boys had to listen to a series of instructions involving up to 8 different 3D shapes, and 6-9 bean bags. Each student had to listen to the instructions, remember and visualize the instructions, then throw the correct amount of bean bags on the proper 3D shapes. They all did very well!
In language arts today Mr. Evan had his 1:1 SLP session with Mr. Jeremy while Eric and Avery went over the Zones of Regulation together. They discussed thoughts, feelings, emotions, social situations, problem solving, and situations where they feel like they are in the red zone, yellow zone, green zone, and/ or blue zone.
In gym class today we played a new game called "Manhunt". One person, the guard, had to call out "go" and "stop" when appropriate, and everyone else had to run and hide behind objects to get to the guard's key without being seen. If you were caught, or the guard saw you, you would have to go back and start from the beginning. The winner snuck all the way to the guard's watch tower, grabbed the "key" (a ball), and ran back to the opposite wall without the guard catching them!
During Minute to Win It we worked on our concentration and focus, hand-eye coordination, proprioception skills, bilateral movements, fine and gross motor skills, math skills, time management, sportsmanship skills, and how to work through our emotions.
For social skills today we joined Ms. Andrea's class to talk about the Zones of Regulation, and how to play with our friends. The boys then participated in a "Play Master" session where one friend gets five minutes to dictate and run a game with their own rules. After five minutes is up the next friend gets to be the 'play master', and so on. This is a great game for social skills, communication, turn taking, creativity, fine motor skills, and emotions.
In the sensory gym we worked on our hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, math, time, phonics and rhyming skills, and balance and coordination.
We had lots of fun outside again today playing frisbee, basketball, using the sidewalk chalk, and enjoying the sunshine!
See you all tomorrow and have a great weekend.
Mr. Jacob : )
