Mr. Zachary was our teacher today and led the class through time (past, present, and future), calendar work (years, months, days, and weeks), emotions and feelings, morning greetings.
The boys actually wanted to begin the morning with some sensory dancing. Guided dancing and sensory circuits are both great activities to help regulate and demonstrate great body and muscle awareness, proprioceptive, vestibular and bilateral movements, fine and gross motor skills, motor planning, and auditory processing.
After our quick dance routines we went to participate in a fun team building gym session with a Grade 1/2 class from St. Jude's. The boys worked with other students and had to demonstrate teamwork, cooperation, oral communication skills, directional language, sportsmanship, gross motor skills, balance and coordination, motor planning, and bilateral movements. They all did very well!
In language arts today the boys worked hard together to make a letter for their parents. They had to use proper sentence structure while writing a letter asking parents if they can attend a trip to No Frills tomorrow. Our trip is to get prices and calculate how much it will costs us to host a pizza party for our friends at school. Once we get our total price, we will then send out our letters asking for money and food donations. We are now so, so close to having our party! Woohoo
In gym class today one of our friends from Ms. Andrea's class made up and helped explain his own Dodgeball game called "Wall Ball". The boys got to work on their hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, and balance and coordination.
In social skills today the boys joined Ms. Andrea's class to discuss the difference and similarities between 2D and 3D shapes. We read a really fun book called, Captain Invincible and the Space Shapes where we got to decipher clues and use different shapes to save the captain and his space dog Comet. Afterwards we were going to get into pairs and make our very own space ships using different shapes. Unfortunately we never got to actually make the space ships today as we spent the entire time discussing who the partners were. Everyone did very well using their number sense and numeracy skills, geometry skills, problem solving skills, and social skills with their peers.
In the sensory gym we worked on our hand-eye coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, motor planning, fine and gross motor skills, proprioception skills, vestibular and bilateral movements, math, time, phonics and rhyming skills, and balance and coordination.
At the very end of the day the boys had to work together to create the tallest freestanding structure that they could build. The only materials they were given were 20 dry spaghetti noodles, 10 marshmallows, a meter of string, and a roll of tape with scissors. Everyone had some very creative and unique ideas, however, the majority of our time was spent on social problem solving rather than building. But we had some great discussion and regulation time, and worked through our problems.
Have a lovely evening gentlemen and see you all tomorrow. Please remember to bring in your Biomedical Forms and No Frills letters for tomorrow!
Thank you : )
Mr. Jacob
