Long time no post! I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend and enjoyed the great weather.
Today, the boys focused on time management and problem solving throughout our busy schedule. We began the day by the boys settling who was the teacher (as we all forgot after the three day weekend), and then going over more complex concepts on the calendar. We discussed days, weeks, months, years, and why we start each month at 1, and what the numbers on a calendar actually mean and represent. There was lots of great discussion on past, present, and future tense, as well as getting older.
We then looked at time management, and what we can do in a specific amount of time. The boys had to hear Mr. Jacob's idea, and then take turns giving an idea for an activity to complete. At the end of the discussion we had four different activities to fit in- Team Building "George the Gummy" task (Mr. Jacob), Team Building "Magic Squares" task, Lego building, and Measurement using a Tall Stackers pegboard. I informed the boys that we had 35 minutes to complete four tasks, and after we brainstormed and problem solved ideas how to fit all four into a 35 minute period, we only had 25 minutes! They worked very well together taking turns, engaging in two-way conversation, problem solving, logical reasoning, time management, and compromising.
After a busy 35 minutes we were ready for snack and recess. The boys then came back and we continued our work on time management, and also worked on our new weekly spelling words.
Next, we had gym with our friends in Ms. Jessica, Ms. Hope, and Ms. Andrea classes. We had lots of fun playing Octopus Tag with our friends!
Immediately after lunch recess the boys had fun completing two new Minute to Win It challenges. They all did fantastic working on their hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, concentration, and math skills.
In social skills the boys had to look at specific ingredients and brain storm things that they could make from them. We had milk, flour, eggs, and sugar to use, and there were lots of great ideas. In the end we all made muffins with our friends from Ms. Jessica, Ms. Hope, and Ms. Andrea's classes.
Finally it was time for the beloved sensory gym! Today was a little different from most sensory gym days. The boys have been filling up their class bucket since September when they do nice things for their friends, or do some amazing work. Our class bucket was finally full and overflowing last week, and the boys brain stormed ideas and compromised on a "Free Choice Sensory Circuit". It was a blast!
The very last session of the day was music therapy. The boys did some great work on timing, rhythm, and keeping a beat. They also all played instruments together to make a number one single hit! : )
Have a great evening and see you all tomorrow morning!
Mr. Jacob
