We had a fantastic day today working on social problem solving skills, time management, and working as a team!
The day began with Evan completing his Sensory Diet with Mr. Jared, and Eric and I playing a Memory Math game for his auditory processing and math skills.
Evan hard at work with Mr. Jared!
Eric is on a roll and beat me again for the second day in a row!
Here is Eric playing teacher and leading the class through our morning routine. There was a lot of great discussion on the calendar, time, days, weeks and months.
Evan also did a great job helping Eric set up our daily information board.
During Feeling Faces, Evan chose the colour green to represent that he was happy. He explained to us that green means "just right" on our engines board, and he felt great to start the day!
Eric chose the colour yellow during Feeling Faces. He explained that yellow is like the Sun and that the Sun is always happy!
After Feeling Faces the boys worked together and had to cooperate on different activities and time limits. We only had 35 minutes to complete Mr. Jacob's math, Evan's Magic Squares, and Eric's journals. There was lots of great brainstorming, problem solving, compromising, cooperation, and team work to figure out how much time each activity needed. In the end, although we didn't complete all three activities, the boys figured out that if we all got 30 minutes everyone's activity could be completed. And we would even have 5 minutes to spare!
During Partner Play Eric, William, and Jayden all decided to work together and play Angry Birds! There was lots of great cooperation, team work, and problem solving during the turn taking and actually playing of the game.
Evan and Jordan decided to have fun on the bean bags. Evan did awesome explaining some of the rules in their game to Jordan, and of course, cooperating with Jordan as a team!
In Gym today, we played Shipwreck with our friends in Ms. Jessica and Ms. Andrea's classes. It was a blast!
The afternoon started off with a new fine motor, hand-eye coordination, bilateral movement, and math activity for Minute to Win It.
Ms. Michele read the gang a story about making A and B choices during Social Skills. The boys were very engaged and cooperated with their peers throughout the story. They also played a fun game of Magical Chairs whilst using A and B choices.
In the Sensory Gym the boys worked hard on all of their usual targets: bilateral movement, proprioception skills, vestibular movements, fine and gross motor skills, motor planning skills, balance and coordination, cooperation and sportsmanship.
Finally, the last thing the boys did was participate in a Train Your Brain team building activity. They had to work together and move a marble, using a paper towel roll cut in half, from one point in the room to another. The catch was, the marble always had to be moving! At times it was a bit tricky, but the boys worked well together and had a blast!
Have a lovely Tuesday evening and see you tomorrow!
Mr. Jacob : )
